About

Austin Jaquith, the piano technician behind Miami Valley Piano Tuning, began working on pianos as a shop assistant at the University of Houston while he studied music composition. There he learned tuning, regulation, and repair, and kept the practice rooms in tip-top shape. He soon was hired at The Piano Store (in Houston) as an assistant tuner where he primarily took care of floor tunings. When he moved to Bloomington, IN to pursue further studies in music composition, he kept in close contact with the IU tuning staff, and received additional mentoring in tuning, voicing, and regulation of concert instruments. During this time, he also maintained a private practice, Professional Piano Tuning and Service, for four years. In February 2021, Austin founded Miami Valley Piano Tuning. His clients include many area piano teachers, Chamber Music in Yellow Springs, a number of churches, and he has assisted Doug Atkins tuning at Sinclair University. A lover of all things music, he teaches Theory and Composition at Cedarville University, teaches his young children piano lessons, and practices regularly on his own beloved instrument, a refurbished 6' Kawai grand.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

Give Austin a call, text, or send an email to make an appointment. He'll ask you about the make and model of your piano, the last time it was tuned, and schedule an appointment time that is convenient for you. Austin looks forward to meeting you and making your piano a pleasure to play.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If your piano has been tuned regularly and is working well, your appointment will be straightforward and short. It will cost $195+tax*. The tuning process takes about sixty minutes. If it has been quite some time since your last tuning, a pitch correction may be necessary which will add an additional $50-100. You may pay with cash, check, credit card, Venmo, Apple Pay, PayPal or Zelle. There will be a small service fee for electronic payments. If your piano would benefit from additional services such as voicing, regulation, or repair, Austin will talk those over with you and give you an honest opinion on the best path forward. A well-tuned piano is a joy to play, and your music making will thrill to the sound of beautiful, tuned strings.

*For communities north of Vandalia, this cost is between $210-225 because of the greater driving distance.
